Collected Memories
FINAL PROJECT FOR THE DESIGN THEORY & CRITICISM COURSE AT UC BERKELEY
A graphic that tells the story of the the sari-sari store vis-à-vis thechanging spatial and social landscape of my hometown in Pampanga.
ROLE
I led the concept, research, layout, photography, and illustration for my final project in the Design Theory and Criticism course at UC Berkeley.
APPROACH
An exploration situated from my perspective as an 1.5 generation Filipina on the changing landscape of my province, using the sari-sari store as an example of a taken-for-granted social space amid the changing provincial landscape.
CONTEXT
Sari-sari stores are family-owned neighborhood stores that sell dry goods in the provinces in the Philippines. They are built in the front or back area of the house structure. These stores not only provide vital resources, but they also function as important social spaces.
DELIVERABLES
In a graphic book format, this project is an exploration of my reflections from my collected memories and conversations with my family that constructed this mental imagery of my home province of Apalit, Pampanga.
